Telling Time to the Half Hour

Lyrics: Our teacher said, It’s Monday morning, Let’s go play! It was only 8 AM, And we all screamed hooray! But when It began to rain, That was really recess bliss, And a half an hour passed so fast, The clock told us this! It wasn’t 8 O’Clock it was 8:30Big hand on the six, We were really very dirty! Big hand on the 6, And we knew that it meant 30 Between the 8 and 8 We saw the little hand go, Recess was over and we screamed, “Oh No!” OH NO! Well our awesome teacher yelled, I’m as proud as a birdy, That you learned the longer hand, On the 6 makes a :30, We washed our muddy hands, In our shiny classroom sink, That made our teacher happy and she gave us all a wink, Let’s have another recess, That starts at 9 O’Clock, Another half hour we were really all in shock! Another Recess? SWEET!

Thanksgiving Turkey Count & Subitize Song

I wrote this or my k-3 math classes to help them count and subitize with a fun Thanksgiving theme! Have them look for familiar groupings as they count their thanksgiving turkeys! LYRICS: Last Thanksgiving day, My mom and dad did say, Go and count our turkeys quick, We’ll eat one today I went out to the tree, Some turkeys looked at me, My friends, the turkeys, yes indeed, How many turkeys did I see? Turkey –turkey- turkey peek a boo Turkey-turkey-turkey I see you How many turkeys up in the tree, How many turkeys can you see? How many turkeys up in the tree, How many turkeys did you see? I told 4 turkeys to run away So they wouldn’t be dinner on Thanksgiving day! Last Thanksgiving day, My mom and dad did say, Go and count our turkeys quick, We’ll eat one today I went out to the tree, Some turkeys looked at me, My friends, the turkeys, yes indeed, How many turkeys did I see? Turkey –turkey- turkey peek a boo Turkey-turkey-turkey I see you How many turkeys up in the tree, How many turkeys can you see? How many turkeys up in the tree, How many turkeys did you see? I told 6 turkeys to run away So they wouldn’t be dinner on Thanksgiving day! I told 9 turkeys to run away So they wouldn’t be dinner on Thanksgiving day! I told 8 turkeys to run away So they wouldn’t be dinner on Thanksgiving day! I told 10 turkeys to run away So they wouldn’t be dinner on Thanksgiving day! I told 12 turkeys to run away So they wouldn’t be dinner on Thanksgiving day! Last Thanksgiving day, My mom and dad did say, What happened to our turkeys, son? You scared them all away The turkeys had gone east, I’d saved their lives at least, Thanksgiving now had different food, Like pizza for our feast!

Migration Song- Animal Migrations

A song I wrote for my 3rd Grade students to help them learn about animal migration. Hope you enjoy! Lyrics: Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, Gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… There once was a herd of wildebeest, Who liked to eat well, who liked to feast, But each year the food source got depleted, As the land got dry, animals competed… It was time to leave, to start migrating, To where the grass is green, to where the good food’s waiting, They said it’s time, to go migrate, To find a place where the food supply’s still great! Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… A flock of chilly Canadian geese, Looked north south, west, and east, One asked, which way, should we fly to go? How about to the warmth of Mexico! They all agreed and prepared their wings, Honked goose calls, That’s how a goose sings… They took to the sky in a flying V, Stopped for rest occasionally… Picked up more friends along the way, Migrating was work, both night and day… Finally found, the perfect place with ease, where food was around and water didn’t freeze, A nice warm winter resting spot, Same place as last year, is it not? Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… There once was a monarch, butterfly Flashing brilliantly as it fluttered in the sky, Summer’s blooming flowers, providing her with food, Always in a happy, good butterfly mood… But the fall brought the cool, and before the cold arrived, Monarch said, I better leave, Before the temperatures dives, Migrating, to go to somewhere warm, I could never survive, a freezing winter storm, I’ll follow the sun, Roost with friends along the way, Then I’ll find a tree, and some eggs I’m gonna’ lay, To hatch into larvae, that turn to butterflies, Who’ll fly back north, through the sunlit skies! Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… Migration is when animals move from one location to another. Usually animals migrate to places that are warmer or that have better food supplies. Migrating animals generally travel during the same season every year. Many different animals migrate- some walk or run, like wildebeest, some fly, like birds and insects, and some swim, like fish and whales. Reptiles, such as snakes and sea turtles are also known to migrate. The arctic tern, a bird, is believed to have the longest migration of any animal. It is known to travel some 71,000 kilometers (or 44,000 miles) round trip from the arctic to the Antarctic every year. Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing…
